Bastille Day in Yorkville!

By madeline | July 13, 2007

Hey, did you know that France is celebrating Bastille Day this weekend? Bastille Day officially celebrates the Fete de la Federation, which happened on July 14, 1790. It consisted of a huge feast and an official event to celebrate the establishment of the Constitutional Monarchy in France. This original event was held on the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, which was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern French nation. And you ask, why am I telling you this?

On Saturday, July 14, Yorkville at Yonge (YaY) celebrates Bastille Day and French culture. Businesses and residents of Yorkville, east of Bay Street, have united and are reminding everyone that Yorkville begins at Yonge. Lovecraft, along with many other dynamic merchants, is trying to brighten and enliven our part of Yorkville. Bastille Day in Yorkville is just one of many events planned for the summer season. So if you’re in town, why not come down, enjoy the festivities, and treat yourself to some goodies that would put even the French to shame in the romance department…
